One family in Christ

Religious Education

This half term, we have been learning about family, in the traditional sense and our family with God.

We have learned that God's love is unconditional and that there is nothing we can do to make God love us.

We have thought about forgiveness and understood that it is an essential, yet difficult, element of loving someone unconditionally.

We have gained an understanding of God's unconditional love and forgiveness through scripture, which also explains the importance of forgiving people in our daily lives.

Even  if you feel angry, don't break God's law of love.
Never let the sun go down, never go to bed still feeling
angry with one another. Always do your best to sort
out quarrels, grudges and resentments from the very
beginning. If you don't, they will grow and destroy
not only other people and you llife together, but yourself
as well. Be generous, understanding, sympathetic and
forgiving. Forgive each other as quickly and generously as
God forgives you.

Based on Ephesians 4: 26, 31-32

Our second RE topic this half term will be 'vocation and commitment'.

The children will be exploring the life of St Francis, focusing on what our vocation means to us and our communities. We will explore pieces of scripture and discuss our thoughts through reflection time.

Expectations

During Autumn 2, will look at Isaiah 62 11-12 to think about the prepation of Advent. The children will practise the hymn, Maranatha and discuss the key message within. The children will then look at what 'grace and truth' means to them. Together, we will prepare for the birth of Jesus, 'getting the road ready for the Lord'.

After this, the children will focus on 'unity'.  They will be focusing on the Paul telling the Christians in Rome about communion. We will be looking at Eucharist Prayer and exploring our favourite phrases.

Death

Throughout Spring 2, the children will be able to make links to show how feelings and beliefs about loss and death affect their behaviour and that of others. We will be comparing our own and other people’s ideas about questions concerning loss and death which are difficult to answer. This will prepare us from the celebration of Lent. The children will participate in whole school activities to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
