One family in Christ

Religious Education

We have been having lots of fun in EYFS! We have made the most of our RE topic ‘Celebrations’ by celebrating lots of special times, including Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and Pancake Day. Please take a look at our photographs.

The Units for Spring 2 are 'Relating:Gathering' and 'Giving:Growing'.

In the first unit, the children will build on their understanding of what a celebration is and that the parish family celebrates in church.

They will begin to understand how and why people gather together and the joy of gathering together to celebrate at Mass.

At the end of the unit:

Some children will begin to talk about the times they have gathered together with others. Some children will begin to talk about how they felt.

Some children will begin to say what they wonder about the enjoyment of being together.

Key vocabulary:

welcome, blessing, listen, pray, Mass, sing, gather, together, alone

Reception: Lectern, "The Lord be with you", "And with your spirit"

Key questions:

What things are better done together?

Why are they better with others?

In our second unit of the half term, the children will build on their experience of activities that are good to do together.

They will learn that Spring is a time when things begin to grow and begin to understand that Lent is a time to grow in love to be more like Jesus.

At the end of the unit:

Some children will begin to talk about their own experience of ‘growing’.

Some children will begin to talk about how they feel about ‘growing’.

Some children will begin to say what they wonder about growing, themselves and in nature.

Key vocabulary:

Key questions:

How do things grow?

What do things need to grow?

How do I grow 'inside'?
