Physical development
Young children are naturally very active and by providing a range of wheeled toys (balance bikes, scooters, carts), bats, balls etc and climbing and balancing equipment we encourage them to develop their gross motor skills which enable them to become more confident and agile. We also have a climbing frame to develop muscle strength and co-ordination.
Fine motor control (fingers and hands) is developed through purposeful activities such as playing with playdough, clay, sand, water, operating technology, cutting and sticking in the creative area, building with lego or completing puzzles. Children need well developed fine motor skills to control a pen/pencil when writing.
We also support children in developing their health and self-care skills. Children are encouraged to use the toilet independently and to wash and dry their hands. They are also encouraged to become more independent in dressing themselves.
