Numeracy

In Maths, we follow the White Rose Maths Scheme. We build up our learning by initially using concrete materials, then by using pictures to help us, so that we are finally ready for more abstract concepts. 

Place Value

In Autumn 1, we focused on securing our understanding of Place Value in three digit numbers. We used Base 10 equipment and Place Value counters to help to develop our understanding. When we felt more confident, we drew the equipment on our whiteboards to help us. We were able to solve problems using our place value knowledge.

Addition and Subtraction

In Autumn 1, we also began to use our place value knowledge to help us to mentally calculate addition and subtraction calculations. In Autumn 2, we will be moving on to using the formal written methods for these calculations.

Multiplication and Division

In this unit we will focus on multiplying and dividing by 3, 4 and 8. We will then move onto multiplying a 1 digit number by a 2 digit number and dividing 2 digits by 1 digit.

Money

In our unit on money, the children will work on converting pounds and pence. They will then work on giving change.

Statistics

In Spring 2, we will recap on our work from Year 2, looking at tally charts and pictograms. We will then move onto reading and creating bar charts and tables.
