Numeracy
This half term
This half term, the children are focusing on place value and the four operations. We are learning to partition numbers, focusing on the value of each digit. We will be learning how to round whole numbers to a required degree of accuracy. The children will be using their place value knowledge to tackle tricky word problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Children will be able to extend their learning and ensure they are practising what we have covered each day by logging onto Seesaw and completing the given tasks.
In Autumn Two, the children are focusing on the four operations, fractions, decimals and percentages. We are learning how fractions, decimals and percentages all represent part of a whole one and that they link together. Children will use this knowledge to order fractions, decimals and percentages. They will also be able to find both fractions of amounts and percentages of amounts. They will extend their knowledge of the four operations and learn how to use these skills using decimals also. Children will be able to extend their learning and ensure they are practising what we have covered each day by logging onto Seesaw and completing the given tasks. At times videos or research task will be set for pupils to prepare for an upcoming lesson. There will also be personalised videos set for pupils who need to improve in specific areas of Maths. Seesaw will be of great benefit to your child's progress and help to develop them as independant learners.
TTRS
The children will be have the chance to take a kindle home once a week. They are set in class for children to use as part of our maths lessons and during interventions. We ask for children to make sure they are logging onto TTRS to ensure they are practising their times tables, as this will support them duirng their maths lessons each day.
Starters
On Mondays, our starters consist of Addition questions. On Tuesdays, our starters consist of subtraction questions. On Wednesday’s our starters consist of Multiplication questions, on Thursday’s it's division and Friday’s: fractions. These starters will change throughout the year, and will include different styles of questions.
Big Maths
Once settled in class, each day pupils complete ‘Big Maths’ sheets that allow the children to progress through their timetable knowledge and beyond to their square and cube numbers. This is an essential skill to allow children to access further mathematical concepts. Once children have completed the different objectives within Big Maths, they focus on reasoning style questions. Children are very excited about Big Maths in the morning and are very motivated to be successful and have they picture on our Maths wall!
Recovery Maths
On entry to class, after dinner, each day pupils complete one page of test style questions. The teacher will then go through these for children to become aware of SATs expectations. This is a small task with great benefits. These tasks have been organized to slowly progress from September until their SATs take place.
Arithmetic Tests
Each Friday, the children take part in an arithmetic test. This enables children to practice and improve those essential arithmetic skills that benefit both life skills and children’s ability to access the reasoning papers. The children are put into their arithmetic zones and are eager to move up to the next zone!
