Year 4 - St. Blaise 2020 - 2021
Hello and welcome to Year 4's class page! We hope that you enjoy looking at all of our work!
Teacher: Miss. Townley
Teaching assistant: Mrs Farragher
Here is a quick insight into the type of things that we will be learning about during Spring 2:
Literacy - This term we will be reading The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. Over this half term we will be completing extended writes based on what we have read in class and using the new writing skills we will have learnt from the year 4 writing objectives. We will also use this text to answer a range of comprehension questions.
Numeracy - This half term we are focusing on place value and understanding the value of each digit. We will then be moving on to looking at comparing 4digit numbers and using a number to 10,000. Throughout our maths learning we will be using our times tables knowledge as it is important that we keep them fresh in our minds and practice them regularly.
Science – ‘Help Our Habitats’ is the focus for our science topic. We will be looking at how our environment has changed, the causes and whether these changes are natural or manmade. We will investigate climate change and what this means for the world we live in. For us to further understand climate change we will be conducting an experiment to highlight what the ‘Greenhouse Effect’ is. To end our topic we will look at what we can do to help our environment and help our habitats.
History and Geography – Our topic this half term is the Industrial Revolution focusing on the growth of the railways and what this meant for us. We will learn where the first passenger train ran and how this development in transportation paved the way for the world as we know it today and which towns became industrialised. We will also look at pioneers of the railways in the Industrial Revolution and particular artists from this period. We will end the topic by creating our own art work of modern railways and stations.
Religious Education - Religious Education – Over this half term we will look at the topics ‘People’ and ‘Belonging’. In the first topic, we will explore the truth that Jesus had a natural family with real names and a history. Throughout our second topic, we will look at belonging and being called. We will learn that everyone is chosen at some time or another and people are chosen for different things and at different times.
MFL- The language we will be learning this year is French. We will begin by learning the vowel sounds, learning simple greetings and how to give people our name and numbers from 1 to 12.
