Progression of skills
Teachers plan their curriculum from the long term planning using a 'Progression of skills' template. This unpicks the theme chosen for the term ensuring coverage, an understanding of prior learning, new knowledge to introduce, curriculum links to make and demonstrating skills progression. Teachers make explicit how they are going to teach the unit of work, and in what sequence, to ensure that children’s learning is scaffolded and provides challenge. They identify which vocabulary will be taught and how they are going to bring the children’s learning to life through additionality: trips, visits, hands on learning, investigations and creative activites.
